Wines - 2017 YP Shiraz

The Wine

Expressions straight up are of a spice and herbal field day, with a gentle menthol characteristic in the back ground. Vibrant tones of freshness, coming form components of whole bunch fermentation, linger nicely. There is a real structure to this easy drinking wine that gives that hint of chocolate and mocha characters, with the extra oak time for this vintage of 20 months to give a little more back bone to this wine, it allows to be a very interesting easy drinking wine but also something that there is no rush to consume. An elegant shiraz coming in at 13.6% alc.

The Winemaking

Hand picked on Friday 17th of March, at 13.2 baume into half tonne picking bins, the grapes are then put through the destemmer to wild ferment in open fermenters. Achieving 11 days on skins we then gently basket pressed the skins and racked into seasoned French and American oak. After spending 20 months in oak the wine was blended with selected barrels from other Shiraz vineyards to produce an easy drinking style of wine, but can still age gracefully if chosen.
